Shiitake Fukumi-ni

Shiitake mushrooms boiled with soy sauce, mirin and sugar

You often see this food in the new years holiday. In Japan, family, relatives gets together and celebrate new years. It’s more like thanks giving holiday in the US. Japanese people eat cusine called Osechi during the holiday and this is one of them.

It’s seasoned/marinaded with soy sauce and mirin, flavor of it is very Japanese. You can eat it with white rice or some other main entree. I personally like to eat it with sake 🙂

Ingredients

  • Shiitake 5 pieces
  • Soy sauce 1tbsp
  • Sugar 1tbsp
  • Mirin 1tbsp
  • Water 100cc

Cooking Instruction

  1. Chop the stipe off from the Shiitake
  2. Add Shiitake, Water, Soy sauce, sugar, and mirin to a pot
  3. Put the pot on medium heat and make sure it does not boil over.
  4. Keep heated and boil them until soup sauces are gone.
